The Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival, Inc. (GCEH) has, through its promotion of live Jazz music performances, introduced in Mobile for the past twelve years, the only open and free-to-the-public Jazz music workshops. Using seasoned professional Jazz musicians as clinicians, GCEH provides a beginner's Jazz workshop for youth every Friday of each year's four-day event. This year the workshop will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at The Museum of Mobile, 111 Royal Street, from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. Although, the workshop is designed for youths, anyone from ages seven to seventy are free to participate. Unskilled attendees are introduced to a one (1) hour session of instruction and learn to play a simple wind instrument called a "flutophone." The more skilled amateur musician attendees - with instruments in tow - are later introduced to a two and a half (2 ½) hour session that is designed to open up a whole new world of music, provided by some of the most gifted clinicians GCEH has to offer. This year we are extremely fortunate and excited to present Mr. Bradley Leighton, presented by Pacific Coast Jazz and Yamaha.
We are reaching out to our schools in an attempt to expand our youth workshop.
We are looking for any young musician with a desire to learn a truly classical way of taking jazz further into the 21st century. An early morning session and your afternoon is your own, but be warned you may be hooked to hang-out a little longer and soak up this once-in-a- lifetime experience. We strongly urge you to get involved and join us for our 12th Annual Jazz Music Demonstration Workshop.
